Burwood House

2013 - 2016

The existing house was in fantastic condition with a large west facing garden becoming the site for this, minimally connected, free-standing addition. The high, timber lined white ceiling of the new dining space opens to northern light at high level and forms an open space containing the central activity for life at the home. The spatial extension of this roof, to cover a rear deck, draws the whole garden into the new portion of the house. An adjacent new living room, with smaller windows to the garden, is enclosed and sheltered for more private and quiet activities.

A courtyard, sheltered from the western afternoon sun between new and old structures, capitalizes on the texture of existing and recycled sandstock brick walls and paving for its character.
